JACCU, the Japanese Art & Culture Centre of Utrecht is a house for continuous learning, practising, sharing and gaining knowledge and experience. We are building a school for diverse practices related to Japanese art and culture in a broad sense. Our lessons will be available on-location and online for all Japanese and non-Japanese people all around the world to attend. LANGUAGE COURSES
JACCU is providing a wide range of language courses. You can learn Japanese at different levels from professional teachers. It is also possible for Japanese speaking people to learn English and Dutch from Japanese speaking teachers. All our teachers can speak Japanese, English and Dutch very well.

SHODO COURSES
If the art and history of Japanese calligraphy interests you, then you are at the right place. Lanka Abe is giving Shodō lessons in JACCU.
The term Shodō translates to ‘the way of writing’ and it is an artistic form of handwriting that focuses on individuality and expressions. Lanka is teaching how to draw kanji characters by using seasonal terms from the Japanese calendar, and a variety of seasonal greetings in Japan.

IKEBANA COURSES
Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of ikebana, the ancient Japanese art of flower arranging. Greet Snoodijk will teach you the history and background of Sōgetsu Ikebana, as well as the principles, measurements, and the distinct variations of the style.

KINTSUGI & MAKI-E WORKSHOPS
Would you like to learn the art of Kintsugi, embracing the spirit of wabi-sabi, by means of modern or authentic restoration techniques? Or perhaps, you would like to discover the captivating art of Maki-e, a traditional Japanese lacquer decoration technique?
From February 2024 on, Yuki Tessler, an experienced Japanese artist from Delft, is your guide to discovering Kintsugi and Maki-e techniques in Utrecht. There are various workshops available at JACCU. Check out the different packages and decide which will be your golden experience of creativity.
