This time, Taka will introduce you to two local specialties of Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island where he was born.

Chan-Chan Yaki (Pan-fried Salmon and Vegetables with Miso Sauce)

Chan-Chan Yaki, also known as ‘Miso Butter Salmon’ is a traditional fishermen’s dish from Ishikari, a fishing town in Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido.

This dish consists of tender steamed salmon and vegetables with rich, savory miso butter sauce. Chan-Chan Yaki is easy Japanese comfort food you can cook at home!

Tokibi Butter Shoyu Gohan (Butter and Soy Sauce Corn Rice)

Tokibi Butter Shoyu Gohan is also a popular comfort food option for people in Hokkaido especially in the summer season when fresh corn is available in the region.

This delicious Japanese corn rice is made with corn and rice seasoned with soy sauce and butter.

Preparation before the class

In order to participate, you need to prepare all listed ingredients in the recipes on your own. In addition, the following preparation is required prior to the lesson:

Chan-Chan Yaki (Pan-fried Salmon and Vegetables with Miso Sauce) 

  • Prepare all the necessary ingredients and tools
  • Boil the potato
  • Peel the carrot
  • Debone the salmon

Tokibi Butter Shoyu Gohan (Butter and Soy Sauce Corn Rice)

  • Prepare all the necessary ingredients and tools
  • Measure the rice
